Precautions to take with fluocompact light-bulbs
Don’t panic if you break a fluocompact bulb! It only contains a tiny amount of mercury.
As a precaution, don’t let anyone into the room.
Open a window.
Go out and stay outside for at least 15 min.
Switch off all air-conditioning or heating system
Sweep up the debris, but do not vacuum it up. If you have no choice because the bulb has fallen on a carpet, throw away the vacuum cleaner bag containing the broken pieces.
If the bulb has broken in the light fitting, remove the plug from the wall socket to avoid any risk of electrocution.
Place the debris on a plastic bag.
Clean the affected surface with a disposable cloth, wipe or similar, and put this in the plastic bag with the debris.
Place the bag as quickly as possible in a recycling container for dangerous or electrical or electronic waste.
If clothes or shoes have been directly touched by debris, dispose of them too, with the plastic bag.
If clothes or shoes, sofa fabric, etc., were in the room in question, but had no direct contact, wash them. If bed linen is concerned, dispose of it too.
Remember to wash your hands after you have disposed of the debris in a special container.
For further information, please contact the retailer from whom you bought the bulb.
